Queensland Theatre Company (QTC) has announced three extraordinary collectives for its 2026 DOOR 3 program, the company’s premier platform for bold and blistering independent theatre.
Now in its third year, DOOR 3 provides theatre makers the space, mentoring and resources to develop daring new work that pushes boundaries and sparks conversation.
The collectives receive full dramaturgical, technical and marketing support, along with six weeks of dedicated development time, culminating in a public reading or a staged production in QTC’s Diane Cilento Studio.
The 2026 productions include Mu-mma by Courtney Cavallaro (closed-door showing, June). Scenes With Girls by Salad Days Collective (4 – 19 September) and Lucky by Yeah Nah Theatre (13 – 28 November).
Cavallaro’s Mu-mma is a quippy two-hander black comedy centred on Evelyn and her daughter Constance. Set during a stifling Australian Christmas, the play explores the tension, love and humour in their relationship and is directed by Bridget Boyle.
Mu-mma will be a long form creative development, developed over several months for a closed-door showing. Led by Cavallaro, and supported by a team including Boyle, and Brisbane based creatives Rachel Nutchey and Christen O’Leary.
Scenes With Girls by Miriam Battye, presented by Salad Days Collective, gleefully interrogates how modern womanhood becomes tangled in desire, identity and expectation. Across fast, sharp, deeply funny scenes, Fran, Lou and Tosh obsess over men in ways that are grotesquely heightened yet painfully recognisable.
Salad Days Collective, led by Co-Creative Directors Jasmine Prasser and Georgina Sawyer, is known for staging provocative, ambitious and creative performances that challenge industry standards.
Lucky by Liam Lowth, presented by Yeah Nah Theatre, follows university friends Pitt Martin and Brett King as a routine dinner party unravels into chaos when their dog Lucky bites the wrong person. Loyalties warp and relationships strain in this modern dinner-table classic.
Directed by Mikayla Hosking, Lucky is a fearless, conversation-sparking production that showcases Queensland artists pushing boundaries and taking risks.
Yeah Nah Theatre is an independent, community driven and collective, led by Mikayla Hosking, Campbell Lindsay, and Meg Bowden.
QTC Artistic Director Daniel Evans says DOOR 3 is where fresh ideas take shape and next-generation Queensland theatre-makers can test their limits:
“DOOR 3 has become a springboard for Queensland artists to take risks, test ideas and find their voice on stage. Each year we see independent theatre at its most inventive, fearless, sharp and unflinching.
These collectives are pushing boundaries, experimenting boldly and reminding us why Queensland’s indie theatre scene is among the most exciting in the country. DOOR 3 is a front-row seat to the future of theatre – intimate, electric and impossible to forget.”
In keeping with the program’s mission, 100 per cent of box office proceeds go directly to the artists, supporting Queensland’s independent theatre community while giving audiences the chance to experience daring new work up close.
