Black Swan State Theatre Company launches its first-ever Giving Day this Thursday 1 May. Giving Day is a 12-hour campaign to raise much needed funds that will support WA artists, deliver creative learning programs, and help more people across WA experience the thrill of live performance.
For one day only, every donation made will be doubled, thanks to the generosity of Black Swan’s matching donors.
Black Swan’s CEO Ian Booth said:
“When you buy a ticket, you’re only covering about a third of what it actually costs to bring a story to life. Giving Day helps bridge that gap and ensures we can keep telling bold, brilliant stories for all West Australians.”
WA-based writer and Black Swan-commissioned artist Mararo Wangai shared the impact of the company’s support:
“Black Swan Theatre have been an incredibly generous institution in supporting my growth as a writer. Most recently they supported me in completing a draft of my latest work Always Accra. Without a doubt it would have been a difficult feat to achieve without the resources and encouragement that the Black Swan team invested in me. They are incredibly pivotal in supporting artists, nurturing new talents and creating bold new work that speak to the times we find ourselves.”
All donations received will go directly towards Black Swan’s work in the community, supporting local artists, inspiring the next generation through education and outreach programs, and ensuring theatre continues to entertain, challenge and inspire audiences across WA.
