Jeff Green returns to the 2026 Melbourne International Comedy Festival with his newest crowd-pleaser, Jeff Jokes!
After cutting his teeth on the UK comedy circuit in the late eighties, Green famously left a lucrative engineering career for stand-up. He went on to become a familiar face on British television, appearing on shows such as Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Have I Got News for You, and Jo Brand’s Hot Potatoes, alongside nationally broadcast stand-up specials.
Since relocating to Melbourne in the mid-nineties for love and family, Green has become a steady fixture of the Australian comedy landscape. A regular at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Gala, he has also appeared on local television staples including Spicks and Specks, Good News Week, and The Glass House.
Set within the reliably boisterous Comic’s Lounge, Jeff Jokes! feels right at home in a room built for stand-up, where laughter seems almost acoustically inevitable.
This is a show firmly pitched to Gen X sensibilities, and Green settles into that space with ease. His familiar terrain remains intact: family, travel, and the peculiar aftershocks of a life spent on stage.
He revisits his now-grown children, still affectionately nicknamed Voldemort and Lucifer. Marital anecdotes land with a knowing bite, including a rogue kangaroo encounter punctuated by his wife’s perfectly timed I-told-you-so glance.
He also turns his attention to the less glamorous side of touring life, with recent cruise ship gigs offering tales of navigating both the ship’s corridors and its passengers, each with their own comedic challenges.
A few reworked and familiar routines resurface, but rather than feeling stale, they land like well-worn stories polished by repetition and shared recognition.
Throughout the hour, Green demonstrates a clear instinct for his audience. He paces each beat with the confidence of someone who can feel a laugh forming before it arrives.
Jeff Jokes! is made for those who find comfort in the familiar. It carries a cosy, lived-in quality, like settling into a favourite armchair shaped over years of use.
Rather than chasing novelty, Green leans into rhythm, assurance, and the long-earned ease of a performer who knows exactly how to hold a room.
By the end, Jeff Jokes! feels more like a reunion than a reinvention. In a festival full of bold experiments, Green offers something steadier: comedy as companionship, built on rapport, recognition, and trust in the slow-burning pleasure of a well-told joke.
Jeff Green: Jeff Jokes! runs from 18-19 April at the The Comic’s Lounge as part of the 2026 Melbourne International Comedy Festival. 26 Errol Street North Melbourne Vic 3051.
