Review: Night Visions Lights Up The Gardens For Illuminate Adelaide

The Scoop Night Visions Illuminate Adelaide 2025

If you’re seeking an unforgettable experience that combines nature, culture, and immersive art, Night Visions at the Adelaide Botanic Gardens is just the thing. A captivating journey designed to enchant, Night Visions was conceived especially for Illuminate Adelaide’s fifth year by Co-Founders and Creative Directors, Lee Cumberlidge and Rachael Azzopardi.

Behind the brilliance of Night Visions lies a powerhouse of creative talent whose vision and artistry have transformed the Gardens into a portal of wonder. They include UK sculpture artist Amelia Kosminsky and Adelaide AV-royalty, Jayden Sutherland and Chris Petridis. The work of composer and sound designer Jethro Woodward adds a rich auditory layer. From light sculpture and laser artistry to evocative projections and immersive design, each adds something unique.

The staggered booking and entry times ensure a smooth flow and a peaceful, crowd-free atmosphere, allowing every guest to connect fully with the spectacle ahead. An easy-to-navigate one-way circuit is lit by cascading strings of soft white light globes. They act as a luminous ribbon pulling you through the heart of the gardens.

Misty landscapes lit with haunting strobes transform familiar pathways into mysterious realms

The path is flat and friendly for prams and wheelchairs (when dry), making the experience an inclusive one. The entire trail takes about an hour to explore, with children under four enjoying free entry. Just remember to dress for the weather as Adelaide evenings can surprise you.

Moving face projections and evocative music pay homage to First Nations Australians, creating a moment for reflection and connection with ancestral stories. Strobe-lit misty landscapes shimmer and shift, casting a spectral aura across the gardens.

Trees become artworks themselves, their branches bathed in soft colours and flickering shadows, highlighting their natural majesty in new and dazzling ways. Ethereal music welcomes you into a tunnel of clouds. It is an utterly magical moment where the sounds and visuals harmonise to awaken a deep sense of wonder.

About midway through, the Schomburgk Pavilion offers snacks and refreshments to recharge before continuing. For those looking to elevate the evening further, a fine dining experience is available to pre-book at the Botanic Lodge.

The Bicentennial Conservatory pulsates with energy as green and red lights swirl to the rhythm of music. Tiny pinpricks of light, scattered like shimmering fireflies, lend a magical ambience to the Conservatory. It’s a moment that feels alive; a living performance of light and sound within one of Adelaide’s most iconic spaces.

The journey ends serenely, with a rainbow-lit path accompanied by soft, calming music that guides you toward the exit like a gentle wave goodbye. It’s the perfect close to an evening brimming with imagination, emotion, and awe.

Night Visions is a celebration of collaboration, innovation, and the magic that happens when passionate creatives come together. It offers a rare chance to see the gardens in a whole new light—literally. Book your spot, rug up, and prepare to step into something truly special.

Night Visions runs to 20 July as part of Illuminate Adelaide at the Royal Botanic Garden.
