Sez first jumped into our feeds with the super viral reviews of Aussie loos. These saw her analyse toilets in places like the Opera House, Triple J Studios, and even at Osher Günsberg’s house. Whether you know her from that or her hilariously music-packed performances filled with Aussie slang and personal stories, one thing’s for sure. Sez’s 2025 Melbourne International Comedy Festival show, Keeps Me Young, is going to be a fun one.
Sez is performing at The Victoria Hotel, and it’s the perfect venue for an artist like her. Down the stairs and into a bit of an underground area, it could be summed up as a little bit punk rock, a little bit chill, just like her one-hour set.
Kicking off with an audience vocal warmup, Sez jumps straight into her unique brand of music that has moved her into the pop culture zeitgeist of late, and it’s easy to see why. When you put the jokes in the songs aside (which you shouldn’t), Sez’s songs are catchy, which is exactly what you want in a musical comedy set.
Sez’s songs strike the perfect balance between sharp songwriting and laugh-out-loud punchlines, making every tune a comedy and musical gem rolled into one. Sez showcases her musical prowess by featuring a mix of instruments, which also serves to keep things interesting.
But it’s not just music. Sez jumps into stand-up, often using it to set up songs or ideas, expertly bouncing around thanks to crowd work or a story from her early life. Whether she’s sharing thoughts on being a dyslexic bisexual, relaying a trip to the club, finding love at the pub, or dealing with her friend’s annoying boyfriend, Sez’s stories are all fun and relatable.
Sez’s chill demeanour and refusal to take herself too seriously set her show apart at this year’s Comedy Festival. Watching her feels like cheering on a mate, making it easy to connect with her stories and humour. Despite some pacing issues, Keeps Me Young is a strong show that will only get sharper as the Festival continues. Sez taps into the thoughts and struggles familiar to many in their 20s—but with her own refreshingly unique perspective, making it all the more fun to watch.
