Geelong audiences are about to experience the explosive rock musical We Will Rock You, with What’s On? Production Company bringing Queen’s legendary music and the spectacular world of the musical to Costa Hall on 26 and 27 February 2027.
The production brings together a powerhouse cast of professional performers alongside some of Victoria’s most exciting emerging and community theatre talent, creating a unique professional/community collaboration for Geelong audiences.
Leading the cast as Galileo is Joseph Spanti, most recently seen as Danny Zuko on the Australian Tour of Grease. Spanti brings both considerable musical theatre experience and the vocal firepower required to take on some of Queen’s most iconic songs.
Joining him as Scaramouche is Kate Hudson-James, an incredibly exciting talent who in 2025 graduated from Griffith University in Queensland. Kate is joined by acclaimed Australian Theatre Legends Chelsea Gibb (currently touring Menopause The Musical) and John O’Hara (recently returned from the Australian tour of Jesus Christ Superstar) taking on the formidable antagonists, Killer Queen and Khashoggi.
The cast also features recent Geelong Writers Festival Best Actor winner Peter Noble as Buddy, with outstanding musical duo Jessica Aiezza as Oz, and Kane Worthy as Brit who have credits such as National Anthems for the AFL and even a cheeky gig as Back-Up for Robbie Williams! Now That’s ROCK!
Together, this exceptional principal cast will lead an ensemble of professional, emerging and community performers in a production designed to celebrate both the theatrical spectacle of We Will Rock You and the enduring power of Queen’s music.
A different kind of musical theatre experience
Based on the songs of Queen and written by Ben Elton, We Will Rock You transports audiences to a dystopian future where individuality and live music have been outlawed. At its heart is a story about rebellion, friendship, freedom and the importance of finding your own voice.
For What’s On? Production Company, the production also represents an opportunity to bring together two worlds.
Paul Watson, Producer/Director of What’s On? Production Company, said:
“Our vision has always been to create something that feels genuinely exciting and professional while giving local performers the opportunity to share the stage with either established or emerging professional artists.
“We Will Rock You is the perfect show for that. Queen’s music crosses generations, and we want this production to feel like a huge rock concert, a theatrical event and a celebration of the Geelong performing arts community all at once.”
The production is being created specifically for Costa Hall, with a large-scale concert-inspired design featuring live musicians, projections, theatrical staging and the unmistakable sound of Queen.
Audiences can expect iconic songs including Bohemian Rhapsody, Somebody to Love, We Will Rock You, We Are the Champions, Another One Bites the Dust, Radio Ga Ga, I Want to Break Free and many more.
Queen belongs on the Costa Hall stage
With Queen’s music continuing to attract audiences across generations, We Will Rock You is expected to appeal not only to musical theatre fans, but to Queen devotees, rock music lovers and audiences who simply want to experience these songs performed live in a spectacular theatrical setting.
The production is deliberately aimed at making We Will Rock You an event for the whole region, attracting audiences from Geelong, Melbourne, Ballarat, Bendigo and surrounding Victorian communities.
What’s On? Production Company is committed to producing ambitious musical theatre that brings together professional standards, local talent and accessible opportunities for performers and creatives.
And with Queen providing the soundtrack, the result promises to be one very loud weekend in Geelong.
We Will Rock You is presented by What’s On? Production Company and runs 26 – 27 February 2027. Costa Hall, Deakin University, 1 Gheringhap Street Geelong Vic 3220.
