The Scoop’s New Star Rating System Explained

The Scoop The Scoop Star ratings

As The Scoop continues to grow within Australia’s arts landscape, we are introducing a formal star rating system across our reviews.

Since our inception, our reviews have focused on thoughtful engagement, context and considered evaluation. As our readership and industry reach expand, we believe a clear rating framework provides greater clarity for audiences and producers alike. From now on, every review will display a star rating.

What Our Star Ratings Mean

Exceptional. Artistically outstanding and deeply resonant

Highly recommended. Strong, assured work with clear impact

Good and worthwhile. A solid production with clear strengths

Uneven. Promising elements, though significant issues limit overall impact

Not successful in its current form

It’s important to note that 3 stars ★★★☆☆ represents a positive and credible outcome. Some productions will fall within this range, reflecting the complexity and subjectivity of live performance and film.

Our signature pink stars reflect The Scoop’s independent and contemporary voice. Every rating is carefully considered and awarded with respect for the artists and creative teams whose work we engage with.

This update marks an evolution, not a departure, from our commitment to rigorous, fair and constructive arts journalism.
