Sharehouse Production Company in association with The Old Fitz Theatre is thrilled to present their debut production, Tonsils + Tweezers from 17 -27 February as part of Fitz’s 2026 Late Night programming.
This is the debut production for Sharehouse Production Company, a newly formed Sydney-based collective founded by four housemates and NIDA grads (Jago Field, Caleb Jamieson, Caitlin Green and Victor Xu).
Tonsils + Tweezers, written by Will O’Mahony, received a playwriting Australia National Script Workshop before going on to win the 2014 Black Swan Emerging Writers Groups Best New Play Award.
Ever wanted to kill someone?
Tonsils and Tweezers are a dynamic duo; think Wham!, toothbrush and toothpaste, the Macbeths. It’s the kind of inextricable friendship that is built on banter, in-jokes and the weight of a shared past. But one life-altering night has left a fracture between them. On this day, the day of their high school reunion, Tweezers will down tools, take out a gun and ask, “Tonsils, ever wanted to kill someone?”
This reimagining features some of Sydney’s most promising emerging talent. For director Lucy Rossen (À La Carte, NIDA), this marks her debut production since graduating from NIDA’s prolific Directing MFA in 2025.
The cast includes up-and-comers Ariyan Sharma (Dear Evan Hansen, Sydney Theatre Company; Life Is A Dream, Belvoir 25A), Toby Carey (All Boys, KXT; Black Snow 2, Stan), Victor Xu (All Boys, KXT) and Caitlin Green (Traffic Light Party, KXT).
The cast and creative team are predominantly NIDA trained. Ariyan Sharma and Toby Carey are graduates from the Bachelor of Fine Arts (Acting) 2023, while Victor Xu and Caitlin Green, who also serve as co-producers, are graduates from the Diploma of Acting, 2023.
Others NIDA grads on the team include the aforementioned director, Lucy Rossen, stage manager / sound crew Matthew Phillips (BFA Technical Theatre and Stage Management, 2025), and lighting designer Poppy Townsend (BFA Technical Theatre and Stage Management, 2025).
Co-producer Victor Xu, who also plays Lewis / Tweezers said:
“It kinda had me at hello. Or at first read at least. There is this line in the script that says: ‘even though the two of them killed together, the ‘scary’ is not that we in the audience are a potential victim, but that in private we all confess to having a folded up Maccy deepy downy.’
They’re talking about Macbeth, but I suppose they’re also not at all. They’re talking about us. About me. How men suffer and grieve and inflict pain upon others, upon themselves. Our own villains; the school bully, the shooter, the Tonsils, the Tweezers… are in us all.
This play interacts with masculinity in such a unique way. It says the quiet part out loud. Even now, 8 years since Tonsils + Tweezers was last staged, those cultural ideas are unfortunately more pressing than ever. The violence, the suffering, the loneliness; it hasn’t changed, it’s persisted. I want to tackle subject matter that feels confronting, and I want to work really hard for it.”
Co-producer Caitlin Green, who also plays Beth, said:
“Sharehouse was dreamed up around our shitty rentals’ kitchen table at a point where, transparently, things felt pretty hard. All those Netflix gigs you think you’re going to get turn into half a torso in a Colgate ad and we were suddenly faced with the reality of the industry. What became really clear, really quickly, was that if we wanted to make work, we were going to have to make it ourselves.
The Sydney arts scene is so beautiful but it can also feel like a closed door; an ‘it’s who you know’ type of situation. Starting Sharehouse felt like a way of pushing back against that and not just for us, but hopefully for other early-career artists too.
Sharehouse is about championing the next generation of Australian artists, both on and off the stage. We’re unbelievably grateful to the Old Fitz for taking a chance on us. This show feels a bit rough and tumble, you know? Quick and dirty. But that’s the kind of theatre we’re excited by, so that’s the kind of theatre we’re making.”
At its core, Tonsils + Tweezers is a play about men; how they love each other, hate each other and mourn. It’s sharp, joyful and devastating.
