After a strong debut night, Cabaret Fringe Adelaide’s new open-mic series CabLive is already building momentum, with organisers calling for a fresh wave of performers ahead of its second instalment.
The first CabLive event, held last weekend, drew a lively crowd and showcased a mix of emerging and established cabaret talent. Audiences were treated to a blend of original material and classic repertoire, setting the tone for what the series aims to become: a low-barrier, high-energy platform for cabaret experimentation and connection.
Now, with the next event just weeks away, Cabaret Fringe is inviting singers and performers to step up.
CabLive is designed as a supportive performance space, giving artists the chance to test new work or refine their craft in front of a receptive audience. Hosted by cabaret regular David Gauci, the night offers performers the option of live accompaniment by pianist Carol Young or the use of backing tracks.
The second CabLive will take place on Sunday 3 May at The Arch, Holden Street Theatres in Hindmarsh. Artists can register to perform via the Cabaret Fringe website. Free entry is provided for those on the bill.
Organisers are also encouraging audiences to attend, framing the night as a chance to support local artists and discover new voices within Adelaide’s cabaret scene.
CabLive forms part of a three-event series, with a final showcase scheduled for Sunday 7 June. The initiative is supported by the City of Charles Sturt.
Alongside the series, Cabaret Fringe Association Inc. is also calling for donations, as it looks ahead to a potential return of the Cabaret Fringe Festival in 2027. Contributions over $2 are tax-deductible and aimed at sustaining the organisation’s future programming.
For now, CabLive is doing exactly what it set out to do: reignite cabaret at the grassroots level, one open mic at a time.
