Auditions for the global smash hit Moulin Rouge! The Musical officially kicked off in Sydney last week, with hundreds of performers competing for a coveted place in next year’s highly anticipated production.
With only a limited number of roles available, competition is fierce as performers bring elite technical skill, stamina and star power into the audition room.
Associate Director Jacinta John said:
“There’s a boldness and fearlessness in Aussie performers. They’re not afraid to take risks, and that willingness to fully commit is exactly what this show demands.”
Associate Choreographer Danielle Bilios added:
“This first round is all about energy, musicality and presence. We’re looking for dancers who don’t just execute the choreography, but bring personality and storytelling into every movement.”
International Casting Director Lisa Campbell said:
“Australian performers are absolutely on par with international talent – what we’re seeing today here in Sydney is world-class. The standard is incredibly high, which makes these decisions even tougher.”
Following Sydney, auditions will continue in Melbourne as the nationwide search intensifies.

Released by 20th Century Studios, Baz Luhrmann’s MOULIN ROUGE! premiered at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival. At the 74th Academy Awards® the film was nominated for eight Oscars®, including Best Picture, and won two.
As in the film, Moulin Rouge! The Musical celebrates over 160 years of music – from Offenbach to Lady Gaga. The stage musical features many of the iconic songs from the movie and also includes recent hits released since the movie premiered over 25 years ago.

Moulin Rouge! The Musical is directed by Tony Award® winner Alex Timberswith a book by Tony Award® winner John Logan, choreography by Tony Award® and Emmy Award winner Sonya Tayeh and music supervision, orchestrations and arrangements by Tony Award® winner Justin Levine.
