The Scoop Jordan Barr Melbourne International Comedy Festival

Jordan Barr’s Dog Why is a must-see from the Triple J Weekend Breakfast host, delivering sharp, hilarious insights for all the Melbourne girlies. As Jordan says, her show is a cheeky ode to us, the Nietzsche girls, trying to have a Brat summer.

Jordan says exactly what we’ve all been thinking (but are too afraid to say) as she explores existentialism, self-improvement, and hang-xiety. She has a very natural presentation style that leaves the audience feeling at ease. It’s like you’re having a margarita at the bar and a friend is sharing a story, one that leaves you caught between disbelief and laughter, jaw-dropping and utterly hilarious. I appreciate that Jordan doesn’t rely on cheap tricks or demeaning jokes to get the laughs. Her content is well-curated and genuinely funny.

I saw Jordan Barr at the 2023 Melbourne International Comedy Festival in her show Saturn Return Lol, and she has kept the same magic formula. She’s relatable, funny, and has some silly PowerPoint slides in tow. Since that show, Jordan’s ease on stage has grown, letting her natural gift of the gab run free.

I always enjoy Jordan’s quirky slideshow; who doesn’t love a visual and an old-school animated transition? The slides are more than just a backdrop, they act as a clever comedic tool, adding another layer to the jokes.

The space at the Westin Melbourne contains a classic stand-up set-up in a cosy room, and Jordan uses this to her advantage to create a casual and warm atmosphere. The light and music effects are spot-on, amplifying the highs and lows of the show.

Although Dog Why features limited crowd work (introverts rejoice), Jordan has a knack for creating intimacy with her audience. She is the girl I want to run into in a bar bathroom. She is outgoing, hypes you up, and has some cracking one-liners. You know that friend who always knows how to turn any situation into something hilariously memorable? That’s Jordan.

What I love most about Jordan’s performance is how she mixes real moments of vulnerability into her comedy. She’s not afraid to dive into the messiness of life. The awkwardness of figuring yourself out and the chaos of modern adulthood. And somehow, she makes it all incredibly funny. Even when she’s tackling deeper stuff, it never feels too heavy. Jordan’s storytelling is authentic, and the way she works the visuals in gives her show a style that’s totally her own.

Jordan Barr’s Dog Why is a must-see at this year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival. With her effortless charm and sharp wit, she’ll have you giggling from start to finish.

Jordan Barr: Dog Why is performing until 20 April at The Westin – Four, 205 Collins Street as part of the 2025 Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
