It’s been 25 years since the show was staged, but in an international premiere, The Only Thing Worse You Could Have Told Me is coming to Back Dock Arts in Brisbane this June.
Written by Dan Butler, known for his role as Bob “Bulldog” Briscoe on the hit TV series Frasier, The Only Thing Worse You Could Have Told Me is a 90-minute monologue exploring the challenges faced by the gay community in 1990s USA. It was first performed in the United States with Dan Butler in the role.
Directed by Timothy Weston and starring Matilda Award-winner CJ de Mooi, the play features 13 different characters across a range of ages, social standings and locations.
Through a series of thought-provoking vignettes, the characters question, contradict and especially challenge one another’s credo of what being gay really means.
CJ de Mooi is an English actor whose last one-man play, Banana Crabtree Simon, won him a Matilda Award for Best Performance in a Leading Role. The play was also nominated for Best Independent Production.
CJ de Mooi has appeared on the BBC and performed in London’s West End, winning several international awards for his screen work. He now calls Brisbane home.
Timothy Weston is an actor and director who has worked with the world renowned Cambridge Shakespeare Festival, Sydney’s Shakespeare By The Sea and Shakespearience Australia.
All the profits from the show will be donated to local charities supporting LGBTQ youth.
