The legendary Brian Cox makes his directorial debut with GLENROTHAN. A compelling family drama set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Scottish Highlands, it co-stars Alan Cumming, Shirley Henderson and Alexandra Shipp.
When his beloved Chicago blues club burns down, Donal (Cumming) reluctantly returns to the Scottish Highlands for the first time in nearly 40 years. Estranged from his family since a violent confrontation with his brother Sandy (Cox) and their father on the day of their mother’s funeral, Donal comes home carrying the weight of old wounds and long-buried secrets.
Sandy, now struggling to secure the future of the family’s Glen Nairn whisky distillery, hopes his younger brother will help preserve the business and the family legacy. Accompanied by his daughter Amy (Alexandra Shipp), Donal appears ready to make amends. But he has another, deeply personal reason for returning to the land he left behind, one he keeps hidden from his brother.
As Donal confronts painful memories and the trauma that drove him away, his actions in the present threaten the fragile reconciliation Sandy has long hoped for. With the fate of the distillery hanging in the balance and decades of resentment simmering beneath the surface, the brothers must decide whether forgiveness and understanding can finally overcome the past.
